Anak dari jenazah tersebut terpaksa melakukan semua prosesi pemakaman ayahnya.

Penduduk desa membantah dan mengatakan bahwa mereka membantu pria itu membawa jenazah.
Hal tersebut lantaran dia berasal dari kasta yang lebih rendah.

Video anak membawa ayahnya menggunakan sepeda telah menjadi viral di media sosial India.
Istri dari almarhum mengatakan kepada India Today bahwa tidak ada yang datang untuk membantu karena mereka termasuk dalam kasta rendah.

“Tidak ada yang datang untuk upacara terakhir suamiku. Anak dan saudara ipar saya membawa jenazah ayahnya dengan sepeda dan melakukan upacara terakhir,” katanya.
Pegawai layanan di Distrik Bolangir, Arindam Dakua mengatakan bahwa keluarga itu belum meminta bantuan dari kantor administrasi setempat.

“Mungkin dia belum meminta bantuan siapapun dari administrasi, Bahkan BDO tidak mengetahui kejadian tersebut. Mereka jelas diinstruksikan untuk membantu di bawah Harischandra Sahayata Yojana. Namun, dia akan mendapatkan bantuan keuangan," katanya.
Khusus untuk Pemerintah Odisha, pada tahun 2013 telah meluncurkan Harischandra Sahayata Yojana yang berfungsi untuk membantu keluarga miskin secara finansial dalam melaksanakan rutual terakhir kerabat yang telah meninggal.

Pada 23 Februari 2020 lalu, Ketua Menteri Odisha, Naveen Patnaik mengatakan sebanyak 79.578 keluarga telah menerima sekitar 17,63 crore Rupe (Rp 35 Miliar) sebagai bantuan di bawah Harischandra Sahayata Yojana pada tahun anggaran 2019-2020.
